September has a specific problem. You open your study app, and it greets you with last June’s weakest chapter, offers you a quiz on a course you finished, and the tutor cites a scan from a year you have closed. The material was right once. It just did not know the year had turned.
SKØØLSKILL now files everything you study under a school period, and the top bar says which one you are looking at.
One period, everything in it
A period is whatever your school runs on: a school year, a semester, a trimester. Your courses belong to a period, and everything hangs off a course, so your notes, scans, cards, skills, folders and summaries are filed with it automatically. Nothing you add has to be tagged. It lands in the period you are standing in.
That also means a course name can exist once per period. “Maths” this year and “Maths” next year are two courses, each with its own material, and next September you can create it again.
A new year starts clean
When you create a new period it opens empty. Home leads with what you are studying now, the skills browser opens on this year’s tree, Quiz hands out this year’s questions from the first tap, and Nova reads only the notes filed under it.
If you want last year’s courses carried over, the option is there when you create the period. It is off by default, because a clean slate is the point.
Last year is still there
Nothing is deleted. Switch back to last year from the top bar and you see it exactly as you left it, every scan and every score. Switch forward again and it is out of the way. On a phone the switcher lives in the account menu, next to the language setting.
What stays with you
Some things are yours, not the year’s. XP, level, coins, gems, hearts, streak, badges and season are account-wide and look the same whichever period is open. Your history of study sessions and deadlines shows across periods too, because a date is a date.
One more rule worth knowing: a scan that could not be filed under a course shows in whichever period you are in, so an upload never disappears just because it has not landed anywhere yet.
Managing your periods
Open School years from the switcher to create, rename, re-date, archive or delete periods. The dialog suggests dates for the next period from the length of the last one, so a school that runs trimesters gets three-month suggestions without typing them in.
Start the year by creating it. Then scan the first page of the first lesson, and let adaptive practice get to know the new material from day one.
