Most studying happens on a phone: on the bus, on the sofa, in the ten minutes before a lesson starts. So the thing people asked for most was not a new feature. It was an icon on the home screen. As of this week, SKØØLSKILL is on Google Play, in open testing, and anyone with an Android phone can install it.
What you get
The whole product, not a cut-down version. Scan a page, flip your cards, run a quiz, open a lesson with Nova, check your streak, join a class. Your Home screen shows the same plan, quests, leaderboard and wallet you see on the web, loaded in one go so it does not arrive piece by piece over school wifi.
It is the same account too. Sign in on the phone and everything you scanned on a laptop is already there, filed under the same courses and the same school year.
Signing in
Two things that are fiddly on phones are handled properly:
- Sign in with Google works inside the app. Google does not allow its sign-in page inside embedded browsers, so the app uses the phone’s own Google account picker instead. One tap, no browser detour.
- You are not locked out while you wait for the verification email. Sign up with an address and a password and the app signs you in straight away. The verification link still arrives, and clicking it confirms the address, but slow mail no longer costs you your first session.
Paying on your phone
Pro, Pro+ and token packs are bought through Google Play inside the app, so the receipt sits with your Google account, and refunds and renewals are handled the way you are used to.
Under the hood it is one subscription record, whichever way you paid. Pay on the phone and the laptop knows about it the next time you open it. Pay on the web and the app already says Pro. Nothing to link, nothing to re-enter.
Built for the phone it runs on
Small details, all of them the kind you notice only when they are wrong:
- Headers stay below the status bar, and the bottom navigation stays above the gesture bar.
- The back gesture stops a session instead of walking off the page, and Cards, Quiz and Learn each have a proper way to stop and go back to the course picker.
- A quiz you stop halfway closes cleanly, so the minutes you did study still count.
Why “open testing”
The listing says testing because we are shipping fixes daily and want the feedback loop wide open. The app loads the live SKØØLSKILL, so an improvement reaches your phone the moment it goes out, with no store update to wait for. Rate it, break it, and tell us what is off through the help option in your account menu.
On an iPhone?
The web app works in Safari today. Add it to your Home Screen and it opens full-screen like an installed app, with the same account and the same notes.
Get it on Google Play, sign in, and scan the page you are working from right now.
