Calculus tutor online — AI that drills the techniques of differentiation and integration.

Calculus is a technique subject — the chain rule, u-substitution, integration by parts — and you only get fast at techniques by doing dozens of them. Skoolskill is an AI tutor that finds which method you keep botching, drills it until it's automatic, and works old AP Calculus FRQs with step-by-step feedback.

What a calculus tutor actually needs to do

Calculus is a techniques subject. Understanding what a derivative means takes an afternoon; getting fast and accurate at the chain rule, u-substitution, integration by parts and related rates takes dozens of worked problems. The students who struggle usually understand the ideas fine — they’re just slow and error-prone at execution, losing marks to a dropped sign, a forgotten “+C,” or picking the wrong integration method and grinding to a halt.

So a calculus tutor’s real job is volume on the right techniques: identify which method you keep botching and drill it until it’s automatic, while catching whether the failure is the calculus or the algebra underneath. That’s frequent, marked practice — not a weekly lecture.

Skoolskill is an AI tutor that turns your textbook and problem sets into daily practice, finds your weakest technique, and works old AP FRQs with step-by-step feedback.

How the calculus practice plan works

StageFocus
LimitsLimits, continuity, indeterminate forms, L’Hôpital’s rule
DifferentiationPower, product, quotient and chain rules; implicit; related rates
ApplicationsOptimisation, motion, curve sketching from derivatives
Integrationu-substitution, by parts (LIATE), partial fractions, the FTC
Areas & volumesDefinite integrals, area between curves, volumes of revolution

Where calculus students actually lose marks

The AI tells you which of these tripped you, then drills that one specifically.

Differentiation and integration — the two skill ladders

Differentiation is mostly pattern recognition: spot the nested function, apply the chain rule, remember the inner derivative. Integration is the harder ladder because there’s no single algorithm — you have to choose the method, and choosing between u-substitution and integration by parts (the LIATE rule is the usual guide) is the skill that separates fluent students from stuck ones. Both rest on solid algebra; when the AI sees the algebra failing rather than the calculus, it sends you to short algebra drills first.

When a human calculus tutor still matters

The realistic setup is a human for the rare conceptual block and Skoolskill for daily technique volume — it pairs naturally with broader maths practice.

Questions teachers and parents actually ask.

What calculus topics does the tutor cover?

The full sequence: limits and continuity, derivatives (power, product, quotient and chain rules), implicit and related rates, applications (optimisation, motion, curve sketching), integrals (u-substitution, integration by parts, partial fractions), the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, areas and volumes of revolution, differential equations, and for BC, sequences and series and parametric/polar calculus.

Can it prep me for AP Calculus AB and BC?

Yes, both. AP Calc has a multiple-choice section and free-response questions, with and without a calculator. The AI drills both AB and BC content, and works old AP free-response questions with step-by-step feedback — the FRQs reward showing your reasoning and justifying steps, which is where many students lose marks even with the right answer.

Why do students who 'get' calculus still lose marks?

Usually for two reasons: the algebra underneath fails (a sign error in the chain rule, a botched factor), or they forget the constant of integration and the technique-selection. Choosing between u-substitution and integration by parts is a skill in itself. The AI flags whether your error was the calculus or the algebra and routes you accordingly.

Does it help with the chain rule and integration by parts specifically?

Yes — these are the two highest-failure techniques. The chain rule trips students on nested functions and forgetting the inner derivative; integration by parts trips them on choosing u and dv (the LIATE rule helps). The AI generates targeted reps on whichever technique your answers show you struggling with.

Which levels and courses?

AP Calculus AB and BC, A-Level Maths and Further Maths calculus, IB Maths AA, and US college Calc I, II and III. You set your course and the difficulty and topic mix adjust.

What does daily calculus practice look like?

Ten to twenty minutes: a derivative warm-up, two or three integration problems marked method-by-method, and one applied question (related rates, optimisation, area). Spaced repetition brings back the technique you got wrong a few days ago, since calculus skills decay fast without reps.

How does it compare to a private calculus tutor?

A private calculus tutor costs $40–$90/hour in the US or £30–£55/hour in the UK, usually once a week. Skoolskill is daily for free or $6.99/£6.99 a month, with effectively unlimited problems. Technique mastery comes from volume, which a weekly hour can't supply.

Does it just give answers, like a solver?

No. A solver hands you the antiderivative; Skoolskill shows why each step follows, spots which step you got wrong, and generates a similar problem on that exact weakness. It's the difference between getting an answer and learning the technique.
