Leaving Cert grinds, online — an AI tutor 24/7 for the points you actually need.

Leaving Cert grinds run €30–€50 an hour for one hour a week — and you need far more practice than that to move a grade. Skoolskill is your AI Leaving Cert tutor — daily 20-minute sessions, your syllabus, every past paper and marking scheme.

The Leaving Cert rewards steady practice, not cramming

The students who land the H1s and the CAO points they need aren’t always the ones with the best teachers — they’re the ones who practised every day from September of sixth year. One hour of grinds a week at €40 an hour is no match for 20 minutes a day on exam-paper questions.

Skoolskill is built for that pattern. Your AI Leaving Cert tutor lives in your phone, reads your notes, knows your level in each subject, and quizzes you on the exact topics you’re weak on — every day, from your own room.

How the points and grades actually work

The Leaving Cert is graded in bands, and the CAO turns your best six results into points:

Grade (Higher)% rangeCAO pointsOrdinary equivalent
H190–100100—
H280–8988—
H370–7977—
H460–6966O1 = 56
H550–5956O2 = 46
H640–4946O3 = 37
H730–3937O4 = 28
H80–290O5 = 20

Two things to remember: an O1 is worth the same 56 points as an H5, and Higher Maths carries 25 bonus points for any grade of H6 or above. The maximum possible is 625 — six H1s plus the maths bonus.

How the Leaving Cert plan works

StageFocus
Fifth yearBuild foundations, 15 min/day per subject, decide provisional levels
Sixth year Sep–DecFull syllabus, 20 min/day, topic-by-topic past-paper questions
Sixth year Jan–FebMocks, confirm Higher vs Ordinary level by the deadline
Sixth year Mar–AprWhole past papers, timed, weakness drilling, oral prep
MayFull mock papers under exam conditions, error-log review
Last weekLight revision, sleep, no new content

Done consistently, that’s well over a hundred hours of focused practice per subject by June — the difference between an H4 and an H2.

Past papers — where the points actually come from

Leaving Cert marks are built by doing past papers to the marking scheme, not by re-reading the book. Skoolskill has:

Common pitfalls — and how Skoolskill targets them

PitfallThe fix
Dropping Higher Maths too earlyDaily drilling so an H6+ keeps the 25 bonus points
Studying by re-reading notesActive recall and past-paper questions instead
Leaving the orals to AprilVocabulary and sraith pictiúr practice from January
Ignoring the marking schemeAnswers marked against the exact scheme wording
Spreading effort evenlyWeak-topic targeting so time goes where the marks are

When a human grind still matters

A common pattern: a private grind every couple of weeks for strategy and the orals, Skoolskill every day for the actual practice.

Questions teachers and parents actually ask.

How does the Leaving Cert grading and points system work?

Each paper is graded in bands. Higher level runs H1 (90–100%) down to H8, ordinary level O1 down to O8. CAO points come from your best six subjects: an H1 is 100 points, H2 is 88, H3 is 77, H4 is 66, and so on. An O1 is worth the same as an H5 (56 points). The maximum is 625 — six H1s plus 25 bonus points.

What are the maths bonus points?

Higher level Maths carries 25 bonus points for any grade of H6 or above. That's why so many students hold onto Higher Maths even for a modest grade — an H6 in Higher Maths is worth 46 points plus the 25 bonus, giving 71, which beats most ordinary results. Skoolskill drills Higher Maths past papers hard for exactly this reason.

Should I sit Higher or Ordinary level?

It depends on the points and the requirements of the CAO courses you want. Higher papers earn far more points for the same percentage, but a low Higher grade can score less than a strong Ordinary one. Skoolskill tracks your past-paper performance so you can make the call on real evidence, subject by subject, before the February deadline to confirm levels.

Which exam papers and marking schemes are included?

Past Leaving Cert papers and the official State Examinations Commission marking schemes are in the practice library, sorted by subject, topic and year, for both Higher and Ordinary level. You drill the exact question types that come up, and the AI marks your answers against the scheme's wording.

Which subjects does it cover?

Maths, Irish, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Business, Accounting, Economics, History, Geography, French, German, Spanish, Home Economics, Applied Maths, Art and more. The library grows every month and covers both levels.

How does it compare to a grind school?

Grind schools like the Institute of Education and the Dublin Academy of Education, and private grinds, charge €30–€50/hour or several hundred euro per subject per term. Skoolskill is daily 20–30 min for free, or €6.99/month for Pro. The frequency matters more than the format — the Leaving Cert rewards steady practice over a year, not one hour a week.

Will it help with the oral and practical exams?

Partly. For the Irish and continental language orals, Skoolskill drills vocabulary, the sraith pictiúr and likely topics, but a human is better for live pronunciation feedback. For practicals and coursework projects it helps with the underlying knowledge and structure, while your teacher signs off the actual work.
