The Scottish system: National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher

Scotland doesn’t sit GCSEs and A-Levels — it sits SQA qualifications. The usual path is National 5 in S4, Highers in S5 (the qualifications universities care about most), and Advanced Highers in S6 for the most demanding subjects. Everything is set and marked by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

Does this follow the SQA system rather than GCSEs and A-Levels?

Yes. SQA past papers are in the practice library, sorted by topic and year, with marking guidance. You can drill a single weak topic — say Higher Maths differentiation, or National 5 Chemistry calculations — or sit whole papers under timed conditions.

What about coursework and assignments?
